Question:
I have a Validation > Model > General > Member intersection warning. What does this mean and how do I resolve it?
Answer:
The intersection warning means that the beam is not a two (or more) span continuous beam but rather a beam that will interact with the column (i.e. a column force may prop it up or drag it down depending on its behavior). This can be appreciated through the load analysis view.

This warning can be addressed or ignored depending on the desired behavior; this is ultimately your decision.
The warning can be addressed in three ways:
The following solutions apply to column and beam intersections only; portal frame rafters and columns/gable posts cannot be resolved in this way, the warning will have to be ignored.
- Model as two beams connected at the column and change the releases accordingly (i.e. to fully fixed)
- Model as one span and then move the middle node to the column end node as below

- The beam could be modelled as two beams meeting at the column. These can then be joined using the Edit > Join tool.
