How can I ensure that I am running the latest version of the Tekla Structural License Service on my license server?

Question

I have Tekla Structural License Service running on my license server - how can I ensure that I have the latest version?

Solution

For Server licensing (Sentinel RMS), we recommend you check the version of both the Tekla Structural License Service and the Sentinel RMS License Manager.  Do the following:

• Check the versions on the client (any PC on which you run your Structural Design applictions) - any user can do this
• Go the License server computer and check the versions on this - you may need to contact your System Administrator to do this
• Go to Tekla Downloads and check the latest version here

On the Client

You can check the version of the Sentinel RMS License Manager that is running on the server on any client (the term we use for any PC on which you run your Structural Design application(s)) as follows:

• Open the License Manager (Start > Programs > Tekla > License Manager)
• Click the Lock icon at the top left of the License Manager window and select About...
• Check the versions of the Tekla Service on the client and Sentinel RMS on the server as shown in the picture below
  • (as of July 2020 the latest versions are Tekla License Service 3.1.2.0 and Sentinel RMS 9.5.x.xxxx)
• Note that if the Sentinel (SafeNet) RMS version on the client is later (a higher number) than that on the server, you MUST update the license server with the latest version or licensing will not function correctly!

On the License Server

• Go to your license server (or Remote in to it) and open Control Panel > Programs and Features
• Locate the Tekla Structural License Service and Sentinel RMS License Manager items and note their version numbers as shown below (the 64-bit version of the Tekla Structural License Service should be the same version number)

Tekla Downloads

• Go to Tekla Downloads and ensure you Sign in
• Click the Download button for your product (e.g. Tedds or Tekla Structural Designer) then click on the All downloads option.
• Set the filters to Version = the current year (e.g. 2020) and File type = License server then click the Apply filter button.
• The latest version of the Tekla Structural License Service should then be listed.  This will also list the version of Sentinel RMS it includes, as shown in the picture below.
• If your versions on the server are earlier (lower numbers) than those given in Downloads, then download and install the latest version (see Installation section below)

Installation

Once you have downloaded the latest installation, install as follows:

On the Server

• Go to your license server computer.
• For the most common type of setup, select only the SafeNet Sentinel RMS License Service and Tekla Server License Manager options on the License Components page of the installation as shown in the picture below.
  • (Note - only select the Tekla Client License Manager option as well if your computer is acting as both a client and a license server, which is a less common setup)
