Commuter licenses - Incorrect number of In Use licenses
Why does my Commuter In Use count show a number larger than the number of license we have preventing any other user from claiming a license?
Background information
If a server license has been commuted, restarting the Sentinel RMS License Manager service on the server (or rebooting the server) may increase the number of licenses that have been checked out, preventing any other user from claiming a license.
The issue is not a corruption of the underlying license data but how the Sentinel RMS service interprets this data. The fault lies with the service in the lsrvnt.exe.
Prevention
In normal day to day operation the Sentinel RMS License Service allows concurrent usage of both server and commuted licenses. The issue ONLY arises if the service is restarted when there is a commuted license. Therefore if you can prevent / manage the service from restarting when licenses are commuted, by ensuring all licenses have been checked back in before the service is restarted you should NOT encounter this issue.
Workaround
Should you encounter this issue then a simple workaround is to check back in all commuted licenses and restart the service. The commuted license count will return to zero and the service will operate as normal allowing all licenses to be used and also licenses to be commuted again - until the next restart of the service while licenses are commuted.
Emergency measures
Should there be a situation whereby you are unable to check in all commuted license to then action the restart please contact your local support team for options.
