Why do I get a warning "continuously restrained by precast concrete deck?

Why do I get a warning "continuously restrained by precast concrete deck"?

Answer

The default beam property, which is carried over from the composite beam with profiled metal decking, is that the Top flange is continuously retrained in the construction stage.

This is incorrect for a precast composite beam so a warning is issued if the restraint is NOT set to No, or edited via the Edit dialog > Lateral restraints page (via the right click context menu).

If you set to No then the validation warning is removed and the construction stage checks in accordance with SCI P401, Cl 4.1.4 Balanced condition, are carried out.

In the Normal stage the beams are always assumed to be fully restrained.
